Brown rice is whole rice grain which is partly milled and it is produced by removing the outermost husk of the rice and it is considered to be more nutritious that white rice which all the barn layer and the germ are removed and all the nutrition also get removed when germ and barn are removed. The presence of barn gives brown color to the rice. So if you are looking for a healthy option of eating rice,go for brown rice.

Nutritional benefits of brown rice is not know to all and most people go for white rice, the main. Full milling and polishing of rice which converts brown rice into white rice take away 90% of the vitamin B6, 80% of the vitamin B1, 67% of the vitamin B3, half of the manganese, half of the phosphorus, 60% of the iron, and all of the dietary fiber and essential fatty acids.

raw brown rice

One of the main nutrients is brown rice is manganese, a cup of brown rice will provide us with 88.0% of the daily need for manganese. It helps to produce energy from protein and carbohydrates and is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids, which are essential for a healthy nervous system, and in the production of cholesterol, which is used by the body to produce sex hormones. Manganese is also a critical component of a very important antioxidant enzyme called superoxide dismutase. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is found inside the body’s mitochondria (the oxygen-based energy factories inside most of our cells) where it provides protection against damage from the free radicals produced during energy production.

Brown rice have hight amount of fiber and Selenium content which is good to the treatment of colon cancer. A cup of cooked brown rice provides 27.3% of the DV for selenium, and Selenium is an very important component of several major metabolic pathways, which include thyroid hormone metabolism, antioxidant defense systems, and immune function. Selenium also helps to induce DNA repair and synthesis in damaged cells, to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, and to induce their apoptosis, the self-destruct sequence the body uses to eliminate worn out or abnormal cells thus helping to reverse cancer. Selenium is incorporated at the active site of many proteins, including glutathione peroxidase, which is particularly important in the protection of cancer. One of the body’s most powerful antioxidant enzymes, glutathione peroxidase is used by our liver to detoxify a large number of potentially harmful molecules. While the levels of glutathione peroxidase are too low, these toxic molecules create havoc on any cells with which they come in contact, damaging their cellular DNA and promoting the development of cancer cells.

Oil content in the outer layers of brown rice helps in lovering LDL ( bad cholesterol ), the same oil comes as heart friendly rice barn oil in the market, in addition brown rice also supplies hefty doses of heart-healthy fiber, magnesium, and B vitamins. Scientific studies shows eating brown rice is highly beneficial for post menstrual woman with cardio vascular disease. Brown rice consumption also reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome, so Eating brown rice is benifitial for people who are diabetic due to that the prevalence of both insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome was significantly lower among those consume the most cereal fiber from brown rice compared to those eating the white rice.
