Green tea review ( about green tea )
Tea is a favorite drink from ancient days onwards and use of green tea can be traced back to ancient China and it is associated with many ancinet cultures in east..
Pure Green tea is made by steaming or baking tea leaves, while black tea is made by drying tea leaves, drying tea leaves undergoes oxidation losing out itz anti oxidant factors while green tea maintains itz anti oxidant capabilities.
Green Tea Natures biggest anti oxidant
Green tea contains several substances collectively called polyphenols that have displayed potent antioxidant effects and other cancer-combating properties. 90 percent of the poly-phenols found in green tea are called catechins. Most active anti oxidant compound in green tea is EGCG and is a stronger antioxidant than vitamin C or E. For this reason, it is the most widely studied green tea compound.
- Lower Blood cholesterol
Green tea lowers blood cholesterol by reducing its absorption in the digestive tract, while increasing its rate of excretion. But perhaps even more important than whisking away excess cholesterol is the ability of green tea to prevent LDL from getting oxidised. When LDL is oxidized, it gets more dangerous due to itz sticky nature and tends to cling to the walls of your arteries. Oxidized LDL is a major factor in the development of athe buildup of plaque in the arteries, it increases risk of heart attack or stroke. Green tea, through its antioxidant action, does much to protect LDL from oxidation, thus helping to keep your arteries “clean.”
- Lower Blood sugar
Polyphenols and polysaccharides contained in green tea are effective in lowering blood sugar. Scientific studies show that green tea extract reduced the normal elevation of glucose and insulin when 50 grams of starch were ingested, polyphenol group of green tea catechins is efficient in lowering blood sugars levels. Epigallocatechin gallete, one of the catechin polyphenols influences the primary way that glucose is absorbed, it also help diabetics by mimicking the insulin action and inhibiting the livers production of glucose in turn lowering blood sugar. Though liver produces some glucose, but the most common sugar spikes occur from the food we eat. Recent studies suggest that green tea catechins may reduce the amount of glucose that passes through the intestine and into the bloodstream. This will benefit diabetics by preventing blood-sugar spikes when tea is taken with meals.
When we consume starch , it requires the enzyme amylase to break it down into simple sugars that can be absorbed in the blood stream. Green tea polyphenols have the ability to inhibit amylase. A study showed that just one cup of green tea inhibited amylase activity by 87%. Another research showed that green tea reduced the normal elevation of glucose and insulin when 50 grams of starch were ingested.
Health Benefits of Green Tea
- Prevent High blood pressure
Green Tea is a natures gift for curing high blood pressure because it inhibits ACE ( angiotensin converting enzyme) and lowers blood pressure. There are many factors that can cause arteries to narrow resulting in high blood pressure that are plaque build-up, smoking, bad diet, lack of exercise, alcoholism, stress, diseases such as diabetes, or a chemical signal from our own body. The signal released by our body is in the form of an enzyme called ACE. ACE starts a chain reaction as a resulting the tiny muscles surrounding the arteries to clamp down, making the arteries smaller and driving up blood pressure. Preventing this clamping down of the muscles and keeping the arteries from narrowing is an important step in preventing high blood pressure
Catechins contain is green tea have the ability to prevent chain reaction and stabilising high blood pressure. So for those who are suffering from high blood pressure should consume 3 or more cups of green tea everyday.
- Acne therapy
Green tea has been using from early days onwards in east as an effective acne cure medicine. Its ability to rid the body of irritants is very effective in clearing the skin of blemishes. Green tea can effectively reduce inflammation and redness to the skin, speeds healing, detoxifies and even deters hormonal activity shifts to help prevent acne.Green tea can stop visible irritation from AHAs, soothes redness and leaves the skin soft, smooth and perfectly balanced.
If you decide to use green tea to clear up acne do not add any sweeteners to your tea as in will negate all of the positive effects that the tea can provide your skin with. but you can add honey and lime to make it sweet n refreshing. I will be discussing about flavored green teas in my Blog.
- Suppress Aging
Studies shows that Antioxidant properties of green tea can prevent free radicals, free radicals are the are the cause of aging. Anti oxidants helps our body to detoxify harmful excess free radicals, these free radicals are molecules, which occur natural in our body. However excess amounts ( caused by excessive sunlight exposure, pollution, smocking, stress etc ) Have been associated with an increase in major diseases and aging
Antioxidants have the ability to combat their adverse effects by neutralizing their production and thus protecting cells from the normal, but damaging physiological condition known as oxidization stress.
