All about Olive oil

People living around Mediterranean countries Have a healthy heart, the secret lies behind the Olive trees which gives a touch of green to its desert landscape, Olive oil is the main compound in Mediterranean diets, Now researches have proven that Olive Oil is one of the most healthy oil available.

Olive oil is abundant in mono unsaturated fats, most notably oleic acid which is a main factor in preventing coronary heart diseases, it also is rich in anti oxidants, another studie conducted by University of Granada in Spain proved that Good quality extra-virgin olive oil contains health-relevant chemicals, ‘phytochemicals’, that is capable of triggering cancer cell death, More and more studies are showing that Olive Oil is capable preventing cancers like bowel cancer, colon cancer. Extra virgin olive oil can also help in the prevention and treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections, which cause millions of cases of gastritis and peptic ulcer disease every year.

Olive Oils is effective in compacting degenerative disease and also it can compact cell damage due to oxidative stress due the presence of antioxidants ( polyphenols ), so consuming Olive Oil will help your skin stay young and youthful, Extra virgin Olive oil can also be used topical as a moisturising agent, it can be used for facial massages . Studies on mice showed that application of olive oil immediately following exposure to Ultra violet rays has a preventive effect on the formation of tumours and skin caners, so it may be helpful for humans too.

Types of Olive OIl.

Olive oil can be categorised into four according to the process in manufacturing

Extra virgin - least processed, comprising the oil from the first pressing of the olives.

Virgin – from the second pressing.

Pure – undergoes some processing, such as filtering and refining.

Extra light – undergoes considerable processing and only retains a very mild olive flavour

Out of this four categories Extra Virgin Olive oil is considered as the healthiest due to its natural form, it prepared without chemicals, heat and it don’t have any added flavours.

How to take care of Olive Oil

Olive oil should be handled with care to preserve its nutrients, exposure to bright light, heat and air will oxidise the olive oil and making it rancid , in turn losing its nutrients. To prevent this we should store Olive oils in Dark bottles or containers that prevent light exposure, close the container and make it air tight soon after using. We should keep olive oil in cool place cause the ideal temperature for storing olive oil is 57° F or 14 degrees C, although a normal room temperature of 70ºF works very well if the olive oil is stored in a dark area where the temperature remains fairly constant. Keep it away from stows and other cooking equipments which transmit heat.

Sunlight is the main factor that supports life on earth, all life forms on earth are directly of indirectly depended on suns energy. Plants make food ( photosynthesis ) by the help of sunlight and plans are consumed by animals including humans for sustaining life.

Benefits of Sun Exposure

We humans are indirectly depended on sunlight for the food we eat and we are directly depended on sunshine Vitamin ( Vitamin D ). Ultraviolet (UV) B radiation with a wavelength of 290-315 nanometers penetrates uncovered skin and converts cutaneous 7-dehydrocholesterol to previtamin D3, which in turn becomes vitamin D3 [11,27-28].Vitamin D is essential for absorbing calcium into our bones resulting in strong bones, plays a role in the prevention of colon, prostate, and breast cancers, strengthens muscles in elderly people and prevent them from falling, it can reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

Risk factors of Sun Exposure

Prolonged exposure to sun is harmful for us and it will result in skin cancers , increases the risk of cataract, increased rate of aging of the skin.
UV rays penetrating through king can damage DNA, resulting in genetic damage that in turn affect the overall skin health, resulting in free radicals and skin cancers.

How much sun rays we need to get

In spite of all these risk factors a good number of scientists recommends that human beings need to get some sun exposure for getting essential vitaimin D but how much sunlight is essential is a continuing debate, the major health factor of sunlight is the vitamin D factor, people who consume good quantity of fish and fortified milk products get enough vitamin D for their body, so another group of scientific community reccomends to use UV suncreens on the eun exposed skin while going out under the sun. Another group recomends a sensible exposure to sun that means, according to them, it is possible for everyone to make enough vitamin D while not increasing their risk of skin cancer and sunburn. For most people exposing hands, ace and arms on a clear summer day for 5 to 15 minutes, at least 3 times a week, is sufficnet to maintain vitamin D, the exposute time vary from place to place and it also depends on the skin colour, dark skinned people need more exposure compared to white skined people. People linking in humid places need more exposure.
